Planning for a supermarket - Another option

Step 2 - The whole estuaryside site is very limited on space and one of the key considerations should be how to open up as much space as possible. One solution is to reroute Marine Way as shown above. This immediately increases the potential development space by the area coloured in yellow. Another benefit of this layout is that vehicles will be routed straight to the car parks instead of passing in front of the supermarket. In turn this means that shoppers will not have to cross the traffic when walking in into the town centre.

Note: Visitors to the town are now turned towards the estuary and its magnificent views before parking their cars. If the Visitor Centre is built on the Recreation Ground as currently proposed it will be in view of approaching traffic and may even attract some additional visitors who, under the old road layout, might have gone straight on to the seafront without noticing it.
