Planning for a supermarket - Another option

Step 1 - Here we see the estuaryside as it is now with all the buildings removed from it to show the space potentially available for development. The roads, railway station and the Sports Centre have been retained unchanged. It does show how retention of the Pool and Sports Centre does limit where development can take place because it occupies a large area in a fairly central position on the site.

Note: In make these suggestions we are not trying to influence whether there should, or should not, be a supermarket on the estuary site merely to ensure that if something is doe it is designed in the best way possible. Thus we are not suggesting that the Sports Centre should be demolished, only pointing out that it does impose limitations on what can be done.

Other notes

Exmouth Gateway Visitor Centre - The green circle is used to show the nearest point to the proposed sit of the Visitor Centre. The anticipated large numbers of visitors to this attraction should be born in mind during the design process. Consideration should be given to ensuring that incoming traffic should not pass between any development and the town centre as this will make it less likely that people will bother to cross the road to the town centre after shopping at a new supermarket.

Pedestrians and disabled visitors - Any scheme should make it easy for people to move about on foot. It should also cater for access by the disabled with extensive level paved areas. The Shopmobility scheme should be resurrected.

Railway station - It is intended to increase the frequency of trains using the station and in order to do this there will be lines on both sides of the station. This enlarged station layout is included on all the EDDC options.
